Raton Ladies (10-4) hosted the Lady Rattlers (11-4) for a district volleyball match Thursday evening October 17 2024, in Tiger Gym where the C-team and JV won both their matches in three and the varsity girls made it an exciting four games but came up short in the fourth for the loss.
The C-team took the court this afternoon and started game one with ties early on in the game. Tucumcari took the lead after a tie at 12 and managed to hold on for a 25-22 win. Raton returned the favor dominating the second game of the match after a tie at three. From there they would go on to win by five. In the tie breaker Tucumcari took the early lead but Raton would pull out after a tie at eight and win the game by four.
The Jv followed suit with Tucumcari taking the first game with long volleys the a tie at six, seven and eight before pulling out in front and leading by six and finally the win. Raton took the lead in game two and after a couple of long volleys pulled out ahead 14-7. They extended the lead 23-9 and finished it off with a 25-11 win. In the tie breaker Raton took an 8-1 lead only to allow the Lady Rattlers to battle back for the tie at eight and nine and again at 13. Raton took the lead and won the game in two with a 15-13 finish.
The varsity match saw both Raton and Tucumcari battle at the net with Tucumcari showing a lot great timing at the net with blocks and tip backs. Raton too had several good blocks. Tucumcari took the lead and never looked back in game one of the match but Raton kept it close and finished hot off with a 25-23 win.
In Game two it was battle of the ties with tie scores at five and six and then again from nine to 15. Tucumcari took the lead by three with Raton struggling some and making several hits out of bounds. The Lady Rattlers won by five and in game three Tucumcari took the quick lead and followed that with several long volleys with both teams making several saves on out of bound hits. Raton tied the game at nine, 10 and 11 then took the lead and managed to pull it out for an eight point win.
Game four saw both teams time the blocks and tips at the net. It was a tie game at nine with Tucumcari taking the lead only to allow Raton back in and tie at 19. The game was tied again at 22 and 23 with Raton taking the lead and a tie at 24. Tucumcari managed to pull it out and win with a 26-24 score.
