In Loving Memory of Flora Ortiz

Flora Ortiz, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 6, 2024. Born on October 28, 1928, in Spearman, Texas, she moved to Trinidad, Colorado, as a young child and lived there for the remainder of her life.

Flora was predeceased by her beloved infant son, Ruben Anthony Ortiz; her husband, Ruben; her parents, Isabelle and Joe Muniz, and Vincent Aragon; brother Eloyd (Dora) Aragon, sister Beatrice (Felix) Sosa, brothers and sisters-in-law, and their spouses. She was the last of the greatest generation in her extended family.

Flora is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Margarito Jr.) Fuentes; her son, David J.P. Ortiz; her granddaughters, Neva (Richard Keltner) Fuentes, Alma (Daniel) Quintana, and Raquel Fuentes; her great-grandchildren, Emiliano (Solveig Dalhberg Gonsholt) Fuentes-Casados, Max Espinoza, and Isabel Quintana; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Flora graduated high school and then worked in various roles throughout her life, including as a waitress, drugstore clerk, bookkeeper, clothing store manager, and an elevator operator. She volunteered at the Colorado Welcome Center, Mt. San Rafael Hospital gift shop, and served as a Eucharistic minister. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s group, Guadalupana Society, and several social groups. Flora was a dedicated homemaker, an award-winning seamstress and craftsperson, and a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt.

Flora will be remembered for her feisty and fun spirit, beautiful handwork, delicious cooking and baking, stylish dress, and strong work ethic. Flora especially enjoyed coloring, crafting, crocheting, needlework, thrifting, bowling, cheering for the Broncos and Rockies, visiting Las Vegas and Cripple Creek, and spending time with loved ones. She loved her rosaries and prayed faithfully each day.

Flora lived a full and blessed life and will be deeply missed by family and friends. Special thanks to the loving and compassionate care providers at the Pueblo Villa Pavilion and the Innovage program, whom she cherished. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in her name.

A Rosary will be held at 12:30 PM, followed by a Mass at 1:00 PM on Thursday, October 17, at Holy Trinity Church. A reception will follow the service at El Rancho Cafe in Trinidad, Colorado.
