Barbara Burrescia passed away on her birthday, October 3, 2024, at the Trinidad Legacy where
she had resided for the past 3.5 years. She was born in Trinidad, Colorado, to Bart Dongaro and
Josephine Gentilini. She attended area schools graduating from Trinidad High School and then
Trinidad State Junior College where she received an Associate of Arts degree.
After graduation, Barbara worked for Mountain Bell until she met her future husband, Anthony
(Tony) Burrescia, and was married at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in 1953. She stayed at home
to raise her two children until 1966 when she returned to work as a teacher at Head Start. While
at Head Start, she took classes toward, and received, her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early
Childhood Education from Adams State College eventually becoming a Lead Teacher at Head
Start. During her 26-year career ending in 1992, she touched hundreds of young lives, many of
whom later in life fondly remembered her when they would see her. In Barbara’s retirement
years, she enjoyed traveling, reading, spending time with family, and meeting with friends for
coffee or lunch in town and later at the Senior Center.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law Cheryl (Joseph)
Burrescia. She is survived by her son, Joseph (Judy) Burrescia of Livermore, California and
daughter Pam (Larry) Corradino of Trinidad, Colorado. She is also survived by two
grandchildren, John (Sydney) Burrescia of LaVerne, California, and Laurie Corradino (fiancé
Aaron Freland) of Pueblo West, Colorado, as well as two great grandsons, Felix and Oscar
Burrescia, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 9:00 am at Comi Funeral Home Chapel
followed by The Mass of Christian Burial celebration at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 10:00
am. Entombment will immediately follow at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
In Loving Memory of Barbara Burrescia
