Raton and Colfax County Fire Fighters responded to Lake Maloya Tuesday evening around 7:00 p.m. for a lightning caused tree fire high up on the mesa west of the lake.

Upon arrival fire fighters found a single tree with fire surrounded by oak brush. Fortunately recent rains helped to control the fire. Fire Fighters had to walk a little less than a mile and up over 600 feet and round to get to the tree.

Reports of over 4.5 inches of rain fell in the Roy Mosquero area with flooding reported in the are south of Bueyeros  NM.

Over in Union County high winds or other damaging weather took out several Southwestern Electric Coop poles and at least three 69KV electric poles belonging to Tri-State Electric Generation and Transmission. Crews were working late into the evening to get power restored to the area. A Mesonet site just north of Texline reported a 94 mph wind gust this afternoon.

Between Clayton and Texline high winds blew a FedEx Semi Truck into the median on Highway 64/87. A little after 7:00 p.m. the southbound lanes of 64/87 were closed so tow trucks could upright the semi and remove it from the site. The driver was taken to Union County General Hospital with minor injures. https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=832102342435473&set=a.166615298984184
