On Tuesday September 10, 2024, just after 7:30 a.m. Colfax County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a breaking and entering at a residence on Johnson Mesa on Highway 72.
According to the arrest warrant John Floyd had discovered the male who claimed to be Pete Suthers had taken up residence at the Floyd property and he wanted the individual removed. As deputies were responding a white ford pickup matching the description of the vehicle Suthers was driving was met on Highway 72. Deputy Simpson attempted to stop the individual and gave chase down Highway 72 then onto I-25. After chasing the vehicle several miles units disengaged the pursuit.
Later that morning the individual returned to the residence on the mesa and as deputies were arriving in the area they encountered the vehicle and gave chase westbound on Highway 72. The driver then did a 180 and headed east bound. Then once again did a 180 and headed west bound. This occurred twice and due to increasing traffic deputies once again dropped the pursuit.
Back at the residence clothing and other items were found in the house to indicate that someone had been living there. While at the residence the individual was identified as Mac Suthers. Suthers was in the area while deputies searched the residence for evidence. Deputies left the area allowing Suthers to return to the residence later that day.
It was confirmed that Suthers did indeed return to the residence and New Mexico State Police were called in to assist. Sometime after 9:00 p.m. Colfax County Deputies and NMSP Officers made entry into the residence and arrested Suthers without incident.
Suthers is being held at the Vigil Maldonado Detention Center and has been charged with
Breaking and entering, Aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, reckless driving, speeding, no drivers license and failure to obey traffic control devices/failure to obey sign.
