Colfax County Sheriff’s Office Arrest Suspect Involved in Shooting on August 24, 2024

Raton, NM — The Colfax County Sheriff’s Office has arrested Jeremy Licon of Raton, NM, in connection with a shooting that took place on August 24, 2024, in east Raton.

On Saturday August 24, 2024 just before 2:00 p.m. a Colfax County Deputy was on a traffic stop when he heard gunshots in the area of Grant Avenue and East 5th Street. Attempts to locate a suspect were unsuccessful at the time. Shortly after the shooting a gray pickup with multiple bullet holes was found in the 1000 block of Little Street. A loaded rifle was also found near the pickup. Following an extensive investigation, Licon was identified as the primary shooter involved in the incident.

Licon is currently in custody and has been charged with the following charges.

Receipt, Transportation or Possession of a Firearm or Destructive Device by Certain Persons,

3 counts of Child Abuse (No Death or GBH),

5 counts of Aggravated assault (deadly weapon),

2 counts of shooting at or from a motor vehicle (no great bodily harm),

Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer,

Driving While License Revoked -DWI Related,

Tampering with evidence,

2 counts negligent use of a firearm.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.
