**Colfax County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Shootout in Raton **

Raton, NM – On Saturday, August 24th, 2024, at approximately 1353 hours, Colfax County Deputies were conducting a traffic stop when an incident of gun violence occurred. While engaged in the traffic stop, a Deputy heard gunshots and immediately identified vehicles involved in the area of Grant Avenue and East 5th Street.

One of the vehicles, described as a gray, smaller model pickup truck, was observed fleeing the scene. Colfax County Deputies, with the assistance of Raton Police Officers, quickly located the vehicle on the 1000 block of Little Street. Upon inspection, the pickup truck was found to have multiple bullet holes, and a loaded rifle was discovered discarded next to the vehicle.

Initial investigations indicate that a shootout occurred at two separate locations. In addition to the gray pickup truck, a black or blue sport 4-wheeler was also identified as being involved in this incident.

The male driver of the gray pickup truck was described by the Deputy as having dark hair and wearing a black shirt. Law enforcement agencies are currently working to gather further information and locate all individuals involved in this dangerous event.
