Homer G.E. Jones, 82, passed away unexpectedly August 17, 2024, in Trinidad, Co. Homer was born July 3, 1942, in Silioam Springs, Arkansas as Marvin Dewain Wilcox to Neva Maria Wilcox and Roy Vic Coombes. At a young age of 5 months old on December 4, 1942, he was adopted by Charlie and Zelta Jones, given the name Homer George Edward Jones. He was raised in Trinidad and Pueblo as a child.
Homer attended Rice Elementary School, Trinidad Junior High and Trinidad High schools. At 17 years old, he enlisted in the US Army. After completing basic training, he attended medic training in San Antonio at Fort Sam Houston. He traveled extensively at this time and served on the USS Kittyhawk. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to Trinidad and then decided to join the US. Navy with his best friend Richard Kinnick on the buddy system serving 2 more years.
Returning to Trinidad, he worked numerous jobs including Tri- Care, Mullare- Murphy Funeral Home, Trinidad Ambulance Service, Safeway, and then Trinidad State Nursing Home.
In the fall of 1965, he met Diana Lou Martin and after only 2 dates, they were married on December 11, 1965, they were married for 48 years. Upon this union, 3 sons were born John Paul, Steven Lee and Tom Jason. Homer and Diana were devoted parents and loved their boys tremendously. Tragically John and Steve both died at young ages. They both became very protective and devoted to their youngest son Tom; to say he was spoiled by them was an understatement.
In 1995, Homer retired from Trinidad State Nursing Home after working there for 30 years, he was the first orderly to retire from there. Homer and Diane spent retirement fishing, traveling, riding motorcycles, cheering on his Denver Broncos, and enjoying life to its fullest.
On August 12, 2014, his beloved wife, Diane, passed away unexpectedly. He spent the next year with Tom and Pam in Pueblo until Tom passed away on September 7, 2015.
Yearly after that, Homer and Pam would road trip somewhere; Oregon, Washington, Arkansas, and Hawaii, those trips, their bond only grew and so many memories were made, tears were shed and past- memories revealed. At this time, Pam learned so much of Homer’s early life and childhood.
In 2015, after having known each other for many years, Homer and Annette Felthager became a couple, with Homer constantly by her side, her constant companion and right hand, they loved each other and enjoyed helping with her son Corey and their great – grandson, Malachi, their pride and joy. Also, during this time, Homer became GPA to Abigail Uhernik when Pam remarried, g-pa because Homer was too cool to be grandpa.
Over the next several years, Homer and Annette went everywhere, never one without the other except the annual road trip with Pam where she could drag him away. A few weeks ago, Annette became ill, having to be hospitalized, he was by her side when she passed on August 11, 2024.
Homer returned home and kept busy with his and Annette’s niece, Gaylene Furu – Vigil planning her services. On August 17, 2024, he passed away brokenhearted with Gaylene by his side, unexpectedly.
Homer was truly one of a kind, he had a laugh you will never forget, he never knew a stranger. He was deeply loved and will be missed, his absence is devasting.
