Sylviana Baca, a Senior at Roy High School, participated this summer in volleyball showcases/camps hosted in Centennial, Colorado; Surprise, Arizona; and Albuquerque, New Mexico. At these showcases, she was evaluated by multiple college coaches and her efforts were rated as a 5-star athlete by Noel Carpio of Georgetown University and a 4.5-star athlete by Cass Smith of the University of the Southwest. In addition to these evaluations, Sylviana was voted on and nominated by collegiate coaches from across the nation to participate in an international showcase hosted in Spain, this November 2024.
In addition to making the volleyball All-District and All-State Teams from 9th to 11th year, Sylvi helped the Roy/Mosquero Lady Blue win the NM Class A State Basketball Championship in 2022-23 and earn the #1 seed in last year’s tournament. She has played basketball since Maxwell in the 8th grade and has been named All-District and All-State every year.
She is a three sport athlete also competing successfully in Track and Field having qualified for the NMAA State Track Championships every year for the last 3 years. She qualified and competed in 20 events, medaling in 10 of them including in the 100 and 300 hurdles, the 100 and 200 meter dash, many relays and long jump and won the high jump championship this past year with a leap of 4’10”.
Sylvi has set the bar high outside of the athletic arena with a 3.91 GPA and is a 4 year member of National Honor Society.
She was also a 2024 Representative to NM Girls State, a 4H member for nine years, a State Science Fair participant and is an Altar Server in the Holy Family Church.
The daughter of Matthew and Jennifer Baca, Sylviana plans to participate in all sports again this senior year which will make all supporters of Roy/Mosquero athletics very happy.
