Joey Manuel Martinez spent a lifetime filled with adventure and passed peacefully at his home in Moriarty on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 following a long battle with what would finally be diagnosed as ALS.
Joey’s wife of 40 years, Susan (Hepsworth), was his constant companion; and his two sons, Joseph and Benjamin, were the pride of his life.
Born March 29, 1958, Joey pursued his dreams in many different ways – he traveled the country in an 18-wheeler, and he worked to become a heavy equipment operator who had a hand in many road projects in Albuquerque while employed with Albuquerque Asphalt. Joey was a lifelong cowboy; he broke horses and competed in saddle bronc riding for many years at the Maverick Rodeo in Cimarron. Joey also became an author of several stories documenting the fantastic journey of his lifetime.
Joey’s parents, Virginia Eva “Jean” and Freddie preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Susan, sons Joseph and Benjamin, Ben’s fiancé Kimberly, and grandchildren McKynna & Madisynn.
He loved spending time with his siblings every chance he could. He is survived by three brothers, one sister, and their spouses: Mario & Bella, Albert & Sandy, Victor & Natalie Martinez, and Rebecca & Irvin Horstman.
He dearly loved and was loved by his many nephews, nieces, cousins, and aunts from his Martinez and Sanchez families in Cimarron, New Mexico.
Services will be on Friday, August 30 at 10 am at the Immaculate Conception Church in Cimarron, followed by a dinner at the Sister Hildegarde Parish Hall.
His beloved high mountains will be Joey’s final resting place.
Arrangments for Joey Martinez are under the direction of the Hanlon-Harris Mortuary or Moriarity, NM
