BACKGROUND: Eddie Jean “Gweedy” (Breen) Long was born November 11, 1929, to Edward F. Breen and Mary Lee (Chambers) Breen in Amarillo, Texas. She attended school in Shattuck, Oklahoma and graduated from high school as salutatorian and received a scholarship to Oklahoma State University. Eddie Jean married Jesse Lawrence Long on April 12, 1948, in Clayton, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2011. They moved to Clayton in 1957. At that time, Jess and Eddie established Southwest Metal Works, where many horse and stock trailers as well as overhead feed bins were designed, built and delivered throughout the agricultural areas of the United States. Her family was very important to her and she gave her all to all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as neighbors and friends. Eddie was a very hard worker and would cook breakfast for all of the ranch workers then go feed cattle and then return home to prepare lunch for all the workers. Eddie prepared lunch for all of her grandchildren for almost twenty years and then would help them with homework after school. She also attended any event that any of them were involved in.
