Aldo Fred Bazanele passed on July 12th, 2024, peacefully at his home with family.
Aldo was born to Josephine Nonas and Victor Bazanele in the coal camp of Valorso, Colorado on May 20th, 1923. He was preceded in death by his two sisters Victoria and Barbara and his brother Charles. He grew up around families that bonded on their shared experiences of the coal camp life. Aldo learned to be self-sufficient at an early age and developed his natural talent for mechanics and building personal relationships. He earned money for his parents and himself by collecting scrap metal, fixing cars, and doing chores for the men and women of the camp. Aldo forged his parents’ signatures to enter the Civilian Conservation Corps when he was only 15. That allowed him to leave the confines of the canyon and experience life outside of the camp. At 21 years old he joined the Army and entered World War 2. He was sent to Camp White, Oregon, and assigned to the 1392nd Engineer Forestry Company and eventually the third wave at Omaha Beach, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Battle of Bastone. He attained the rank of Technician in 4th grade. He returned from the war and married Rose Tamburelli in Aquilar on July 2nd, 1950. He worked for the Bear Canyon Coal Mine and the CF & I Steel Corp Allen Mine where he retired as a master mechanic. He also worked as an instructor of diesel/hydraulic and automotive mechanics at Trinidad State Jr. College. Aldo and Rose raised 4 children, Mark, Gary, Carolyn, and Ron. They also enjoyed 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Aldo was a loving husband of 74 years, a supportive father, a generous friend, and was adored by all of his grandkids. We all will miss him.
“And like they say everybody has an angel. I tell you one thing; I have had an angel with
me thru everything. Bear Canyon…the CC camps and in the Army and everything else. I don’t know…decisions that I made were all…I made them. I didn’t have my parents or
anybody else doing them for me. From a little kid.” Aldo Bazanele
