( January 21, 1942 – June 28, 2024 )

Edward Francis Montoya beloved husband, father, and grandfather age 82 of Springer was called to be with our Heavenly Father on June 28, 2024. He was born in Springer to Edward C. and Esther Montoya.

Edward graduated from Highlands University with a Masters Degree and went to work in the Department of Corrections. He was the founder of the POW-MIA organization. Ed served at the Springer High School Board. He is a Navy Veteran and was an adamant lover of the ocean. Ed spent most of his Navy career on the USS Randolph. Ed spent most of his extra time riding his Harley.

Ed is preceded in death by his father Edward C. Montoya and mother Esther M. Montoya, paternal grandparents: Margarito and Rosa Montoya, maternal grandparent: Josefita Charetta.  Brother: Antonio (Tony) Montoya, and Son: Edward (Eddie Boy) Montoya

Ed is survived by his wife Juanita Montoya and 3 children: Cindy and husband Vince Herrera, Tony Montoya, Shawn, and his wife Ashley Montoya. Grandchildren: Candice Herrera and husband Daniel Gonzales, Shane Montoya, Kayla Montoya, Bryan Archuleta, Amerisa Montoya, Cortney Yellowhorse and husband Eric, Rain and wife Brianna, Skylene Montoya, Naomi, Eric (Boy), and 13 great-grandchildren.

Sisters: Christine Bernal and husband Isidro, Rita M. Trujillo, and husband Antiono (who is no longer with us). There were numerous nephews and nieces who he loved dearly.

Ed cherished his best friends H.E. Campbell, John Sanchez, and Eppie Martinez and is now reunited with Juan (Ghost Rider) Armijo.

Ed will be greatly missed by many family and friends. Serving as pallbearers are Consuelo Chavez, Juan (Ghost Rider) Armijo, Ron Madrid, Eppie Martinez, H.E. Campbell, Greg Guiterrez, and John Sanchez.

Chaplet of Divine Mercy will be recited at 1:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church recited by Stella Aguilar followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 pm, with Father Trieu as the Celebrant.  Military Honors will be conducted immediately after the Mass.

Arrangements for Edward Francis Montoya are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
