Marie age 64 was called to Heaven on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at her daughter’s home
in Norfolk, VA.
Marie was born on December 5, 1959 in Trinidad, CO to Mary Maxine (Derrera)
(deceased) and Jose A. Duran (deceased) of Segundo, CO. Marie graduated from
Primero High School in 1977 and attended Trinidad State Jr College where she
earned her associate’s degree. After completion of schooling, Marie moved to Denver,
where she started and raised her family. Marie worked as an administrative assistant
level IV supporting an engineering firm for over 35 years. She dedicated her life to her
children, ensuring they had a life filled with memories and love.
Growing up she enjoyed camping and fishing trips with her family, which became a
cherished memory and adventure that she passed on to her family. She also passed on
her love of gardening and creating fairy gardens to her children and grandchildren.
Marie enriched our lives by bringing love, laughter and joy to her family and friends. Marie will forever be missed, we will cherish our time and memories of her, especially knowing that she was always there if we needed anything.
Marie is survived by her children; Mona (Guillermo) Laing; Maye Lynna (Rueben) Ramirez; and Ali (Aubrey) Abu-Okal, her grandchildren; Jayden Healey; Xavier and Rueben Ramirez; Isaiah Lovato; Mahmoud, Zakaria “Zak” and Ameera Abu-Okal; and Giuliana “Gigi” Laing and her siblings Vicki (Monte) Smith of Arvada; and Dwayne (Laurie) Duran of Denver. Marie so deeply missed her mother and father, her two younger sisters, Bernadette “Bernie” Duran and Cheryl “Cherrie” Duran and was prepared to see Our Lord and Savior and all the family that preceded her.
The family will be holding two Celebration of Life Memorials. Thursday, July 18 @ 10 am, Crossroads
Community Center, 10451 Huron Street, Northglenn, CO. Reception to follow. Wednesday, July 31 @ 10am, Comi Chapel. Reception to follow at St. Joseph Hall, 1704 Buena Vista St., Trinidad. Private interment following reception at The Tercio Cemetery in the Duran Family Plot. The family can be reached at 2100 West 100th Ave #103 Thornton, CO 80260.
