Mary Ann (Smith) Valentine joined the Pleasant and May Smith homestead in Farley, NM, on October 14, 1932. She was the youngest and last surviving of 7 sisters: Bernice, Evelyn (Walden) Ingram, Ada Mae (Joe) Loe, Pauline (Ernest) Weir, Lois (C.D.) Wylie and Dorthea (Andy) Towndrow.
Mary Ann is survived by daughters Rebecca {Embrey} (Dan) Rusciolelli of Tucson, AZ, Sharon {Embrey} Swanson of Raton, NM, and son, Nick (Anetha) Wylie of Huntsville, TX; grandchildren: Murray Swanson of Colorado, Nathaniel Swanson of Farmington, NM, Ashley (Travis) Meidinger of Miles City, MT, Eric Rusciolelli and David Rusciolelli both of Tucson, AZ; great-grandchildren Denise Montoya of Albuquerque, NM, Marcos Swanson of Farmington, NM and Kyson Meidinger of Miles City, MT; great-great-grandchildren Julius and Samantha of Albuquerque, NM.
Mary Ann retired from Raton’s J.C Penny’s when the store closed in 1986 with 25 years of service and then spent her time and energy full-time at the Valentine Ranch with her husband of 40 years, Jack Valentine. Mary Ann passed away in Raton on January 9, 2024, and her ashes will be scattered from “Lincoln’s Hill” at the ranch, as Jack’s were. Mary Ann’s ashes will scattered on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Valentine Ranch 1 mile north of Raton. A picnic lunch will follow after services. Arrangements for Mary Ann Valentine are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
