It was a long or short afternoon for the Raton Tigers as they hosted the Santa Fe Indian School Braves for their last home game of the season Tuesday afternoon April 23, 2024 at Gabrielle Field.

It was short in terms of the game only went five innings as many of the Tiger games have done this year but a long afternoon on the field for the Tigers as SFI crossed home plate 19 times in the afternoon. Jacob Mattorano started for the Tigers and only lasted 1.1 innings and was followed by four more Raton pitchers. The pitching staff only mustered up three strikeout but filtered with 11 walks. Other team mates pitching included Isaiah Garcia, Isaac Garcia, Christival Ortega and Chase Middlebrook.

SFI Jeremy Martinez started for the Braves and went three innings with three strikeouts and one walk. When it was all said and done the Braves bested Raton 19-1 to end the home season for Raton. Raton now faces St Mikes, West Las Vegas and Robertson all on the road over the next week and a half.

Over at Jim Wade Field it was a totally different story as the Lady Tigers came from behind in the third and rallied again in the fourth to win their game 25-13 in five innings.  Sophomore Mariah Gonzales started for the Lady Tigers and went over three innings in the circle for Raton with only one strikeout but no walks. Hayden Middlebrook and Giana Marez finished up the game.

Santa Fe Indian went through four pitchers, two of them 8th graders Lenava Gachupin and Kayden Abayta. Senior Edwina Martinez and Delano Aguilar both seniors also pitched the game.
