Joseph Olmedo Martinez “Joe” passed away on March 11, 2024, at the age of 86 after losing his battle with cancer. He was born on July 26, 1937, in Raton, New Mexico to Ricardo Martinez and Ambrosita Chavez. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years during which he served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He ended his career at the York Canyon Mine after 17 dedicated years. Joe loved going to the casino, fishing, bowling, and his love for the Washington Redskins and LA Dodgers.
Joe is preceded in death by his father Ricardo and mother Ambrosita, brother Louie Martinez, sisters Caroline Houston, Rachel Castaneda, Olibama Swanson, Eufracia Sandoval, Ramona Rodriguez, and grandson Shawn Martinez.
Joe is survived by his wife Ritsuko “June” Martinez, son Rick Martinez (Maria Uribe), daughter Yuki Martinez (Andrew Cripe), granddaughter Amara Valdez, grandson RJ Martinez, great-grandson Shawn Scholl, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial Service will be on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home with EJ Johnson Officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Raton, New Mexico.
