Sean William Walsh passed away on March 11, 2024, at his home in Raton, New Mexico. He was born on October 3, 1963 in Casper, Wyoming to Marcia E. Walsh and Michael H. Walsh, joining a large family that would grow to include five siblings. While Sean lived in Casper, Englewood, Colorado, and Hattiesburg, Mississippi, his formative years were spent in Littleton, Colorado. He attended Bear Creek High School where he was a good student and excelled in tennis, winning at the District level and competing at State. He also had a wonderful singing voice and was invited to join the elite singing group, the Sounds of BC, and was given a lead role in the musical Carousel. While he was a member of Sounds, Sean traveled extensively, including one excursion to Venezuela where the group performed for the U.S. Ambassador and the President of Venezuela.
After graduating from high school, Sean attended the University of Florida and the University of Colorado before graduating from Metropolitan State University with a degree in Education. He loved working with kids and was employed by the YMCA and local recreation centers in their youth sports programs, both coaching and officiating. Though Sean also administered adult softball and volleyball programs, his true love was nurturing young people in his enjoyment of fitness and sports. In his spare time, he was also employed as a caretaker for elderly and/or disabled adults.
His own fitness level was extremely important to Sean, and he was determined to work out on a daily basis. He ran nearly five miles every day before lifting weights, all prior to heading to work. After moving to Raton, where he was extremely happy, Sean gained employment with Mesa Pharmacy, then the Senior Companion Program which was later taken over by St. Lucia, LLC of Santa Fe.
Even though he was strong and muscular, his most powerful muscle was his big heart. He loved helping others, whether they were family, friends, neighbors, or even complete strangers. When the great flood of 2013 struck Colorado, his sister was alone with her basement flooding because her husband had forgotten to clean the gutters before leaving town on business. In the drenching rain, Sean climbed a ladder and cleaned all of the gutters, then stayed to help clear the basement of several inches of water, all while his own property was flooding. Whenever he was needed, Sean would be there, whether that meant shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, or helping to build his sister and brother-in-law’s dream home.
Sean loved his family and friends deeply, enjoyed most sports, and admired many athletes. However, he really did not like Tom Brady or Manu Ginobili. He loved movies, particularly science fiction, horror, fantasy, and action films, and his favorite television programs included Friends, The Big Bang Theory, and Baywatch. He was a prolific reader with a preference for action novels and science fiction. He loved Chinese food, and at one particular restaurant in Boulder, Colorado, May Wah, which he made a point of going to on every birthday or visit to the city, he was always greeted by the elderly owner as an old friend. The owner always knew what Sean would order, Sesame Chicken, extra spicy.
A loving son, brother, and uncle, Sean was preceded in death by his father, Michael H., and his brother, Michael J. He is survived by his mother Marcia Walsh, his sisters Linda Towe and Barbara Myers (Chuck), and his brothers, Patrick and Dave (Jane). He also leaves 13 nieces and nephews, 14 grandnieces and grandnephews, and one great-grandniece. A memorial service was held at the Church of the Transfiguration, Evergreen, Colorado.
