In Loving Memory of Anne Cenaida (Aragon) Cardenas

Anne Cenaida (Aragon) Cardenas, 81 of Cimarron, New Mexico passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 surrounded by her loving family at the San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad, Colorado.

Anne was born February 5, 1943 in Las Canales at the family ranch in Roy, NM to Frank and Catalina (Lucero)Aragon.  Anne attended school in Colmor and Springer, NM.

Anne’s mother passed away when she was 10 years old, she and her siblings were raised by their father Frank Aragon.  When Anne was 15 years old, she went to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Lilia and Frank Pacheco. Anne stayed many years with the Pacheco family.

When Anne was 26 years old, she met her beloved husband, Nick Pedro Cardenas in the summer of 1969 in Colmor, NM and  they were married on November 15, 1969 in Springer at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

Anne & Nick had three children, Nicolas James and two baby boys who passed away at birth: Francisco Ray Cardenas and Joe Cardenas.

Anne & Nick both loved to dance and enjoyed listening to music, camping and spending time with their family.  Most of all they loved the Lord and honored their lifetime in the Catholic faith.

Anne was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She touched many special lives with her kindness and compassion. For many years, Anne babysat for many children in the Cimarron area and also volunteered at the Senior Center as a Senior Companion.  She also spent time volunteering at the pre-school in Cimarron as well as spending many years teaching catechism to the local parish children.

Anne loved telling jokes, loved to read, and travel.  She was a devoted Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister, Catechism teacher, sang in the Choir and also volunteered countless hours to serve the church.

Anne will be deeply missed by all of those who loved and cherished her, but her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Anne is preceded in death by her husband Nick Pedro Cardenas, her parents Frank & Catalina Aragon, her two baby sons Francisco Ray and Joe, her brothers Joe & his wife Lena Aragon and Tito & his wife Stella Aragon, her sisters: Elvira DeHerrera and husband Rafael, Lilia Pacheco and husband Frank, Servilia Gonzales and husband Antonio and Brother-in-law Marion Foust, two nephews Ralph Foust and Joe Joe Aragon and one niece Linda Cordova.

Anne is survived by her son Nicolas James Cardenas (Pamela Tivis) of Raton.  Grandsons Darrel Cardenas (Angela Sparks), Nicolas A. Cardenas and Patrick Cardenas all of Raton, NM.   Great Grandchildren; Elayna Cardenas, Anthony Cardenas, Zayde Cardenas, Luna Cardenas all of Raton.  Anne is also survived by her sisters, Consuelo Foust of Springer, NM.  Frances Melendez and spouse Jerry of Pojoaque, NM.   Anne is also survived by Edith Raught, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Recitation of The Holy Most Holy will be at 10:00 am on Friday, April 19, 2024 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Cimarron, NM., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am,also at the Immaculate Conception Church , Cimarron, NM.  Anne will be laid to rest next to her late husband Nick Cardenas at the Mountain View Cemetery.

A luncheon honoring Anne’s life with her family and friends will be held at the Sister Hildegarde Smith Parish Hall.

The family would like to thank the staff and medical personnel at the Mt. San Rafael Hospital in Trinidad for their excellent care and compassion during the time Anne was in their care.
