It is with great sorrow to announce the passing of Michael Delano Williams, born January 13, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan. He passed away in Raton, New Mexico on January 29, 2024, at 12:41 pm. He was 87 years old.
He is predeceased in death by his loving wife of fifty-six years Jean Czarnik Williams 88, of Carson City, Nevada. His mother Luba Williams 97 of Raton, New Mexico. Father Joseph Williams 79, of Raton, New Mexico, sister Francis Williams 18, of Detroit Michigan and grandparents Amielia Pober 88, and grandfather Michael Pobar 88 also of Raton, New Mexico.
Michael graduated from East Detroit High School in 1955. Upon graduation, he attended the Cleveland Institute of Art where he earned a degree in Industrial design. A few years later, in 1962, he joined the United States Air Force with dreams of becoming a pilot, but unfortunately, his vision prevented him from attaining that goal. He was a precision marksman.
Michael was an innovator. He was serious and intelligent yet had an iconic sense of humor. Michael, “Mike”, or “Mickey”, known by his family was a multi-faced project manager and designer in all phases of racing, prototypes, and production vehicles.
He was employed by Walt Disney Productions, designing the Wedway People Mover for Walt Disney Rockwell International. Michael designed the interior architecture for the NASA Space Station, and Chrysler Corporation, and was one of the developers of the handicapped vehicle for General Motors at the Epcot Center.
He later established his own company Wolverine Custom Concepts developing custom show and production motorcycles for which he won many awards.
Michael is survived by his two beautiful daughters, Lisa Romo Williams of Carson City, Nevada. Stacey Stevens of San Roman, California. Grandson Shane Stevens of San Roman, California. Sister Rose Ann Williams and Brother-in-Law Richard Trujillo.
We express sincere gratitude for all his many friends who filled his life with joy and happiness in his last years of life. He knew he was truly loved.
Services will be held at Mt. Calvery Cemetery at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 23, followed by the celebration of life at the Woody’s Building on South Second Street in Raton, New Mexico.
