Luigi (Lu) DeGregorio (1950-2024) was born in Portchester, New York, and passed away at his home in Fredericksburg, Virginia, on February 6, 2024, after a valiant battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Rubinstein, who has been his strong and passionate caregiver for the past three years and survived by three sisters and one brother as well as two nieces and one great-nephew. Lu was preceded in death by his mother and father. Lu and Judy were Raton residents for about 13 years where he was an excellent Mental Health Counselor. Judy was an active member of the MCMC Auxiliary.
Lu served in the Air Force for two years, after which he attended the University of New Mexico and received a Master’s Degree in Mental Health and Substance Abuse.
Lu had a passion for cooking, and working with his clients and always demonstrated a great love for animals and toddlers. He was a great mentor to many clients in Fredericksburg, and he continued to counsel his New Mexico clients after his move to Fredericksburg.
A memorial service for Lu will be held in Portchester, New York. Anyone wishing to do so may donate to the American Lung Cancer Association in memory of Lu.
