Luna Community College is introducing a writing club this semester and interim president of the club Sergio Hartshorne is inviting Luna students and the community to join.
“We welcome all types of creative writing,” says Hartshorne. “I love writing and there is no such organization devoted to this at Luna and the inspiration is that it would be a good idea to start one.”
The basics of the writing club will consist of novel excerpts, short stories, poems, memoirs and song lyrics. The concept is to look at everyone’s work and get feedback on it. Hartshorne says the club will not work on any class assignments. Anyone wanting assistance on class assignments can go to the ACE Lab at the Student Success Building.
“I see the writing club as a place for individuals to get positive, productive insight on their writing,” says Hartshorne. “We will be very informal and make it a fun, engaging environment.”
Hartshorne says that one of his goals is to do something the college has never done before, a unique opportunity.
Hartshorne has been working at Luna as a media technician, writing tutor and library assistant for the last nine years.
“My background is in writing and we hope to give people an opportunity they haven’t had at Luna,” says Hartshorne.
