Patricio J. Muniz

Patricio J. Muniz of Louisville Kentucky passed away on December 20, 2023, at the age of 71 from complications of dementia. Patricio was born on March 14, 1952 to Pete and Reyes Muniz in Raton N.M. He attended Raton Schools and left before graduating to follow the racetrack circuit in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Kentucky. He ended up in Kentucky where he did an apprenticeship for seven years to learn the trade of being a farrier. He stayed in the Kentucky Derby area to earn his living as a farrier. He was flown to Raton to shoe a horse for an owner who was entered in a big race at La Mesa Park. He did the job and was able to make a quick visit to Mom and dad and flew back to Kentucky. Pat was preceded in death by his parents Pete Sr. and Reyes Muniz, sister Cecilia Sanchez, and brothers Joe Felix and Pete Muniz Jr. He is survived by his son Seth Berry of Louisville Kentucky, and daughter Dakota of Lexington Kentucky. Sisters, Pauline and husband Manuel Trujillo of Roseville CA, Flora Decker of Pueblo CO, Elsie Muniz and Maria Rosella Muniz of Raton. Brothers Johnny and wife Rose Muniz of Rio Rancho N.M. Andrew Muniz, Anthony Muniz, and Mitchell Muniz of Raton, and Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Recitation of the most Holy Rosary will be Wednesday, March 13, 2024 11:30 am, at St. Patrick’s / St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton recited by the Legion of Mary. Mass of Christian Burial Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at St. Patrick’s/ St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Raton with Father Bill Woytavich as the Celebrant. Rite of Committal and Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
There will be a reception dinner at the VFW following the services, and they will begin receiving food beginning g at 10:30 a.m.
