Samuel Arthur Bernal, age 64, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the First Baptist Church, 236 S. 3rd Street, Raton, New Mexico with Pastor Cory Flanagin and Pastor Jim Burke, officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Samuel Arthur Bernal was born on October 28, 1959, in Raton, New Mexico to Blas and Tomasita Bernal. He was a Maxwell High Graduate Class of 1978. Sam was an athlete in school, he played basketball, baseball, and ran track. He was an All-Star Baseball player and was selected to attend New Mexico Boys State. He then went on to work for Wilson Corporation for 35 years as a general manager and truck driver. Store manager for Dollar General for 5 years, finishing at Car Quest for the last 12 years. Sam loved camping, fishing, riding bikes, woodworking, general construction, and music. He was a big sports fan and loved going to Colorado Rockies games and BBQs, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband for 45 years, the world’s best dad, a loving son, and a caring brother. Sam was preceded in death by his father, Blas Bernal, his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Rose Roybal, and his paternal grandparents, Onesemo and Martina Bernal.

WIFE: Rosalie “Rose” Bernal of Raton, New Mexico.

HIS MOTHER: Tomasita Bernal of Raton, New Mexico.

1 DAUGHTER: Lieann Bernal and Ryan Romero of Raton, New Mexico.

2 SONS: Jason Bernal and Sammy Bernal both of Raton, New Mexico.

1 SISTER: Sharon Bernal and Quirino Tapia of Raton, New Mexico.

2 SISTERS-IN-LAW: Charlene Valdez and David and Edith Garrett all of Raton, New Mexico.

3 BROTHERS-IN-LAW: Pat Garrett and Amy of Raton, New Mexico, Frank Wheeler of Dalhart, Texas, and Joe Wheeler of Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many loving friends.
