( July 2, 1933 – December 30, 2023 )

Marie “Bessie” Sanchez passed away peacefully in her home on December 30, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born July 2, 1933, in Atencio, NM to the Late Pete “Pedro” Fernandez and Clorinda (Gutierrez) Marez.

She grew up in Clayton, NM, and married Carlos Sidney Sanchez on July 11, 1964.  They moved to Raton in 1976 where they lived for the remainder of her life. She worked for Christian Relief Services from 2002 until 2012 and was a homemaker.

She loved to read, watch Hallmark movies, Arrowhead hunting, coin collecting, and picking pinon.  She loved spending time with her family and friends and cooking their favorite meals.  She never let anyone leave without her famous homemade tortillas and made sure they had plenty to eat.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her children.  Rosalie Blan, Patsy Encinias, and Larry Vialpando. Her sisters Viola Encinias and Tina Martinez.

She is survived by her Husband of 60 years Carlos Sidney Sanchez, Her sister Mary (Leo) Montoya of Clayton, Her daughter in law Janet Vialpando of Clayton and Son in Law Eloy Blan of Clayton.

9 Grandchildren, 20 Great-grandchildren,14 Great-Great Grandchildren, and one Great-Great Grandson on the way, and also numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank nurse Robin Piley for her care and support. She is our Angel on earth.

We would also like to thank Dr. Christine Lopez, Sara Lark, and all the staff at MCMC for their care and support during her lengthy illness.

Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be on January 26th at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church recited by Johnny Medina, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11: 30 am at St. Patrick’s/St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Bill Woytavich as the Celebrant.

Arrangements for Marie ‘Bessie” Sanchez are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
