In Loving Memory of Beatrice L (Velasquez) Martinez

Beatrice L (Velasquez) Martinez age 83 passed away peacefully on January 1, 2024, with family by her
side. She was born in Trinidad Colorado on March 14, 1940, to Cristobal and Federica (Espinoza)
Velasquez. She was the 5th born of 10 children, four boys and five girls. Bea married the love of her life
Carl Martinez Jr. on August 2, 1960. She was a loving and amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister,
aunt and Godmother. She worked as a cook in many local places such as the Capri, the White Spot,
Trinidad HeadStart, Trinidad High School, and Eckhart Elementary where she then retired from the
Trinidad School District Number 1 in 2000. She enjoyed playing cards and going to bingo, she loved going
to Cripple Creek and Las Vegas where 99 percent of the time came home a winner. She loved to pass the
time watching the game show and Hallmark channel while crocheting and making cherished Afghans for
friends and family. She was known to make homemade from-scratch foods like prune pies, cream puffs,
her amazing carrot cake, and delicious pizza. Proceeding Bea in death were her parents, Cristobal and
Federica Velasquez, mother, and father-in-law, Carl Sr. and Jenny Martinez, loving husband Carl Martinez
Jr., sons Charles and Marty Martinez, brothers Gilbert and Ben Velasquez sisters Mary Valdez and
Linda Garcia, sisters and brothers-in-law George and Bea Giron, Gerald Morgan, Tom Keltch, Joe Valdez, and Paul Garcia, and many nieces and nephews. Bea is survived by daughter Vicki Martinez,
grandchildren James (Alicia) Sanchez, Jayme Maez, Justin Martinez, Anthony Saucedo and AJ
Benavidez. Great grandchildren Xian and Charles Sanchez, Adrianna Castillo, Keeley Maez, Khaylonni,
Isabella and Anthony Jr. Saucedo, Apollo Carl Martinez and AJ jr, Azia and Auri Benavidez. Brothers, Chris
(Linda) Velasquez, Leroy (Norma) Velasquez. Sisters, Caroline Santistevan, Veronica Lucero, and Pat
Dominguez. Sisters-in-law Viola Morgan, Shirley (Jose) Pacheco, and Geri Keltch. Numerous nieces,
nephews, and other family members along with three Godchildren, special caretaker Erika Martinez, and
many, many friends. We couldn’t have asked for a better person than Bea and she will be missed every
day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 12, 2024, at Holy Trinity Church, with Rosary at 12:30 PM followed by the Funeral Mass at 1 PM.
Inurnment will take place at the Trinidad Catholic Cemetery.
