Raton hosted the Trinidad Miners and Lady Miners Monday December 18 for a regular season game before the Christmas break with the Tigers taking the wins and the Lady Miners dominating the Lady Tigers.
The JV game turned out to be the most exciting game of the day as Raton fell behind. Raton kept it close enough that in the fourth quarter they battled back and took the lead late in the fourth. With a couple of lead changes as the clock ticked down it came down to a couple of free throws and some tight play for Raton to take the win by one 46-45.
The very young Raton Lady Tigers were held to only 15 points scoring most of them in the second and third quarters while Trinidad pretty much scored at will. Turnovers from walks plagued the Lady Tigers Monday as most of the team battled the moving pivot foot. Trinidad ended the game with the ruling clock and a 54-15 win.
The varsity boys game saw Raton take the early lead with Trinidad hanging on for the first quarter but steadily loosing ground the rest of the game. The third quarter was the pull away quarter fro Raton as they dropped in 28 points to Trinidad’s seven. The running clock took effect and was on and off until the fourth when Raton pulled far enough ahead to keep it running and finish out the game with a 75-33 win.
