Irene Eloisa O’Brien went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2023. Born on August 19, 1935 to Elipio and Cornelia Gardunio in Aguilar, Colorado. She was united in marriage to Joseph S. O’Brien Jr. in 1963. She worked at Mt San Rafael Hospital for over 40 years.
Irene loved cooking for her family, (while whistling) and working in her yard, tending to her beautiful plants. She also enjoyed listening to her Spanish music and dancing while drinking a Coors.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Father, and mother, sisters Marie Manuel, Dorothy Ortiz, and Natividad Trujillo, Brother David Garduno, son-in-law Kim Johnson, and grandson-in-law David Marez.
Irene is survived by her only child Denise Johnson, whom she dearly loved. Grandchildren Lalenia, Maygen, Wolfgang (Jessica Vigil) Maria, and Dayna (Allan) Robinson, Great Grandchildren Elias Maria, Sara, Allan (Zara), Zebulen Robinson, Jesenia, Jasminne, Joshua, Santiago, Jasiah Lopez. Two great great grandchildren Jordy and Quinlin. Beloved friends Renee Krahenbuhl, Mandi Armijo, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Graveside services will be at the Catholic Cemetery on November 7 at 2:00 P.M. Irene is in the care of Comi Funeral Home.
