In Memory of Dixie LaRoe Odom

Dixie LaRoe Odom passed away September 29, 2023 at the age of 93. She grew up in Happy, Texas and graduated from high school at 16. Dixie attended the University of Alabama and graduated from New Mexico Highlands University with a BA in journalism and history.
In 1953, Dixie married her high school sweetheart, Carl Odom. They made their home in northeastern New Mexico, ranching and farming.
Dixie loved her flowers,  lawns, and gardens. She grew the most beautiful dalias in the county. As she grew older she grew house plants by the dozen. She loved the ranching life and took care of more lambs and calves than you could count. Stray kittens always found a place in her lap.
Dixie was active as a 4-H leader, with the county fair, antique club, and the Santa Fe Trail Association. She worked as a substitute teacher through the years and shared her skill with painting ceramics with many.
Dixie’s family was her life and joy. She is survived by her daughter Martha Sauble. Her grandchildren Carla Enderle and DJ; Cathy Sauble and Quentin Martinez; Patrick Sauble and Ellen. Her great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Evan, and Addison Enderle ; Carter Allmand and Axel Martinez; Brighton Sauble and Lyla Sauble.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl E Odom, Jr; her parents Sam and Dail LaRoe; and her son in law Roy Sauble.
Most of all Dixie loved her God.
