The St Mikes Lady Horsemen traveled up I-25 to take on the Lady Tigers for a district match in Tiger Gym Thursday October 5, 2023 where they simply dominated the court and both JV and Varsity take the win.
During the JV match St Mikes took off and took a 15-1 lead in game one and finished it off allowing only seven points for Raton. Game two saw Raton tie at 3 and 4 but soon after St Mikes shut down Raton allowing only one more point for a 20-5 score. Raton managed to add seven more before St Mikes ended the match at 25-12.
During the varsity match St Mikes held Raton to 14 or less points in each of the three games played. ST Mikes pulled out quick in game one with a 9-2 score. It seems as though Raton simply had trouble handling the hits put over the net by the Lady Horsemen. Raton managed to add 12 more to finish the game 25-14.
Game two was saw Raton battle back early on coming to within three 9-6. St Mikes then took off and held Raton to only five more points to finish off the game 25-11. Game three went much the same way with St Mikes taking a 5-0 lead. Raton had a spark here and there but couldn’t over come the domination that the Lady Horsemen showed at the net and in the back court. When it was all said and done St Mikes finished off the Lady Tigers 25-10 for the three game win in District play.
Raton will face Santa Fe Indian School on Saturday for another tough district match.
