The Lady Tigers hosted the Clayton Yellojackettes Tuesday October 3, and gave the crowd quite the match to watch as both the JV and Varsity kept the games close as the Varsity squeaked out a win in four.
The JV took the court first and split the first two games by two points. Clayton took the lead in game one and allowed Raton to battle back to tie the game at 19. Clayton managed to ink out the win after taking a 24-21 lead.
In game two it was a close one with a tie score several times in the game. Alanee Munoz took the serves and gave Clayton the score they needed to tie the game at 22. Raton managed to hold out and win the game 25-23.
Game three, the tie breaker saw a tie score several times with a tie score at 13. Clayton managed to take the lead and the win by two.
The first two varsity games left fans wondering what happened as Raton fell behind after teeing the game at seven. Clayton simply dominated the remainder of the game and won by 10. Game two went much the same way except it was Raton that dominated the court with Tess Chatterly serving several times as Raton took the points and developed an 18-8 lead on her serves. Raton went on to win by 11 with a 25-14 score.
Game three started out with Raton taking a four point lead but Clayton battled back and tied the game at 14, 15 before Raton moved out in front. Reyna Marquez found herself chasing balls as she made several saves during the game to help Raton win by two.
Game four saw Raton take the lead and was up by six 19-13 and simply suffered a rough patch as Clayton battled back at the net while Raton made some wild hits out of bounds. Clayton tied the game at 23 and then faultered putting a ball out of bounds and another one in the net for the Raton win and the match.
Raton will take to the court again on Thursday afternoon against St Mikes then on Saturday will host the Lady Braves from Santa Fe Indian School.
