( January 03, 1949 – September 09, 2023 )

Carolyn Kay Arnett, age 74, died on Saturday, September 9, 2023, in Amarillo, Texas.

A private family graveside service will be held.  Arrangements are under the direction of Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.

Kay Arnett was born January 3, 1949, in Canyon, Texas to Hugh Holland Jr. and Naomi (Sunkel) Holland. Kay attended school until the 8th grade at the Clapham community school then transferred and graduated from Clayton High School in 1966.  She attended West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. On July 25, 1970, she married her high school sweetheart Charles Harold Arnett in Clayton. Kay worked at the Farmers and Stockmans Bank until her children were born. When her boys were old enough to put out any fires they may have started at home, she began working Wednesdays at the Five States Livestock Auction and part-time for the Union County manager’s office. Kay retired from Union County as the treasurer in 2012. She spent the past 11 years caring for the ranch at Clapham and was the primary caregiver for her husband. At the age of 74, she was feeding cows, fixing fences, and attending to various ranch work. She usually had at least one dog and a grandkid with her at all times. Amma Kee or Keeks was the name given to her by her grandchildren. Amma Kee loved to hunt arrowheads and would just smile anytime a grandkid picked up a plain rock that they thought was a treasure. She was a hard worker, loyal friend, wife, mother, and mother-in-law who will be greatly missed. Kay was preceded in death by her father Hugh Holland Jr, mother Naomi Holland, father-in-law Charles John Arnett, and mother-in-law Glenna Arnett.
