Commissioners Approved Vehicle and Equipment Purchases in Special Meeting

Raton City Commission met in a special meeting to discuss the hiring of a new city manager and buy a new front-end loader, a pickup and an explorer.

Commissioners started the meeting in closed session Tuesday evening August 28, 2023, discussing the city manager position.

Commissioners then heard about the purchase of a new CAT backhoe utilizing the state purchasing contract. The cost of the new machine is $123,860, If the trade in goes through it will be $72,160. It replaces a John Deere purchased in 1999.

Commissioners then approved the disposal of an old D6 Bulldozer. The Bulldozer will be used as trade in for the backhoe.

Commissioners then heard about the need for a Ford Explorer and a Ford F-150 and were presented with the quote on the CES Contract. The Explorer was listed at $37,915 and the F-150 was listed at $43,510. Commissioners approved the purchase from Phil Long Ford in Raton.

City Manager Scott Berry requested approval for a task order change on the Sugarite Avenue Reconstruction project covering the street repaving portion. The repaving required two coats of micro seal but the problem arose when the sub-contractor missed the second layer of the micro seal coat. The extra cost to the city will be $74,000 with the sub-contractor covering the remaining cost. The city will pay just over $88,000 with GRT.

City Treasurer Michael Anne Antonucci presented the first budget adjustment of the new fiscal year showing the changes for the new vehicles and the street dept for the work on Sugarite Ave. (Link forĀ FY24 Budget Adjustment #1)

Commissioners will meet again on September 12, 2023 in the commission chambers at City Hall.
