NAME: Tony Emilio Herrera, age 78, passed away in the comforts of his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.


SERVICES: Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Central Time on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Texline Cemetery. BACKGROUND: Tony Emilio Herrera was born on August 20, 1944, in Roy, New Mexico to Jose “Joe” Emilio Herrera and Adelia (Maynes) Herrera. He likes to farm, ranch, listen to old country, watch Western movies, and go for long rides. He met the love of his life, Gail Pogue in 1968 and they were married on August 16, 1969, in Texline, Texas. From this union came six kids that he loved with all his heart. Tony worked for Shamburger Ranch for over 20 years. He moved his family to Texline, Texas, and worked numerous jobs. In 1997, Tony moved to Hugoton, Kansas to work for Seaboard Farms. He retired in 2007 and moved to Clayton, New Mexico to help his family and Gail joined him a year later. He enjoyed being closer to his family. His grandchildren were the light of his world. He spoiled them by stopping by their houses during his long rides and bringing them sweets. Tony was preceded in death by his wife Gail Herrera on November 30, 2022, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, his parents, Emilio and Adelia Herrera, in-laws, Leonard Pogue and Agnes Baker, brothers, Freddy Herrera and Pete Herrera, sister Mary Jane Ray, sisters-in-law, Vicky Herrera, Ruby Sanchez and Donna Pogue, brothers-in-law, Robert Evans, Michael Williams, and Johnny Vigil and by a grandson, Thomas Romero, Jr.

SURVIVORS:

3 DAUGHTERS: Patricia A. Herrera and Tommy Fong of Clayton, New Mexico Connie Moncada of Amarillo, Texas, and Toni “Sister” Skaggs and her husband Curtis of Clayton, New Mexico.

2 SONS: John Herrera of Clayton, New Mexico, and Andrew Herrera and Angela Montoya of Clayton, New Mexico.

20 GRANDCHILDREN: Brandon Miera (Kayla Encinias), Savannah Miera, Victoria Miera, Annie Miera, Justice Miera, Angelyssa Miera, Samuel Miera, Jude Romero, Jaclyn Acosta (Fernando), Arnoldo Moncada (Beyonce), Anthony “Chico” Moncada, D’Angelo Herrera (McKinlee), Nathaniel Herrera, Gabriella “Gabby” Herrera, Nicholas Martinez, Akira Herrera, Jacob Skaggs, Ashlee Skaggs, Kaylee Skaggs, and Mia Pena.

4 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN: Marcus Acosta, Lucas Acosta, Danté Moncada, and Cruze Herrera.

4 SISTERS: Lucy Howell and her husband Steve of Monroe, Oregon, Lena Muse and her husband Joe of Sulphur, Oklahoma, Gloria Evans of Hugoton, Kansas and Kristi Aguilera and her husband Fabian of Amarillo, Texas.

2 BROTHERS: Chris Herrera of Texline, Texas, and Orlando Herrera and his wife Vangie of Goodwell, Oklahoma.

1 SISTER-IN-LAW: Angela Herrera of Austin, Texas.

1 BROTHER-IN-LAW: Charles Ray of Amarillo, Texas.

A Great Aunt: Esmeralda Maynes of Clayton, New Mexico.

He is also survived by three special people in his life, Juan Moncada, Ronnica Cruz and Terry Martin.
