In Loving Memory of Barbara Ann Reorda Hocking

Barbara Ann Reorda Hocking was born on January 14, 1952, in Trinidad, CO to Bernard & Anna Mae Reorda.  Barbara passed away unexpectedly in Cape Cod, MA on July 11, 2023.  Barbara enjoyed piano, gymnastics, academics, and the great outdoors growing up.  She attended Trinidad Catholic School.  

In recent years, Barbara enjoyed spending time off with her beloved son, Marc, and his wife in Florida as well as trips back to her home in Cape Cod, MA to relax and enjoy yoga on the beach.  She also loved spending time with her cat, Mr. Pickles, and enjoying the beauty of nature.

Barbara was preceded in death by her father Bernard Reorda. Barbara is survived by her son Marc (Roxanne) HockingMother Anna Mae Reorda, sisters Charleen (Ron) McClendon & Johnette (Chris) Serazio, and her brother Bernie (Lynn) Reorda as well as other extended relatives.  

Barbara was a visionary leader and mentor, lifelong learner, and she was very passionate about nursing and healthcare.  She earned a bachelor’s degree from Colorado Mesa University.  She also held a degree in nursing from Regis College/Mercy Hospital in Denver, a master’s degree and certificate in healthcare administration from the University of Colorado, a doctoral degree from Boston University, and a certificate in healthcare ethics from Georgetown University.  She worked hard to improve the healthcare system in many states including Colorado, Illinois, Massachusetts, Tennessee, Florida, Idaho, Alaska, and Virginia.  Barbara’s colleagues described her as kind, genuine, supportive, warm, caring, and a bright light in the nursing world.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the University of Virginia Barbara Hocking Memorial Fund.  Barb was working as the Chief Nursing Officer for UVA Hospital at the time of her death.  The memorial was set up to honor her work and empower future generations of nurses for Nursing Education and Training. Donations will help provide scholarships and grants to deserving individuals pursuing nursing education.https://www.givecampus.com/campaigns/38110/donations/new
