Betty Ruth Polk
( October 21, 1931 – August 06, 2023 )
Betty Ruth Jackson Polk joined her husband in heaven on the morning of August 6, 2023, at the age of 91 surrounded by her family in Amarillo, Texas.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the First Baptist Church in Clayton, New Mexico with Rev. Billy Rammage officiating. Burial will follow in the Clayton Memorial Cemetery in Clayton, New Mexico by Hass Funeral Directors of Clayton, New Mexico.
Betty was born October 21, 1931, in Texline, Texas to James Houston (Huse) Jackson and Mary Ruth (Curry) Jackson. She attended school in Texline and Clayton, graduating from Clayton High School in 1950. After graduating Betty attended Draughon’s Business College in Amarillo. After Business College Betty returned to Clayton, starting to work for New Mexico State Cooperative Extension Service, retiring after working 35 years in 1987. In 1964 Betty married Leroy Polk who owned the Clayton Dry Cleaners. The happiest day of their lives was November 8, 1967, when their daughter Jacque Ruth was born. Betty was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Clayton, serving many years on the Bereavement Committee. Betty moved to Amarillo in 2009 to be closer to her daughter and family. We will cherish the lessons she taught us, the laughter she shared with us, and most of all the love she showered on us every day. The weight of her loss is heavy to all who knew and loved her dearly, but we take joy in knowing that we will one day see her again. As she wrote in her journal a few weeks ago, “I have been very blessed…living 91 years, good grandparents, good parents, good marriage and a wonderful daughter, son-in-law, grandkids and great grandkids. What more could anyone want?” She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Jim Jackson in 2001 and her husband Leroy in 1996.
She is survived by her daughter Jacque and husband, Randy Branch, one granddaughter Ashley Branch, one grandson Preston Branch and wife Jessica, two great-grandsons, Truett and Briggs Branch all of Amarillo, Texas, one brother-in-law Bill Polk and wife Nancy of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Betty is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
