Marie Margaret George, passed away at home on August 1, 2023, at the age of 95. She was born in Trinidad, Colorado, on February 23, 1928, to Margaret (Givens) and George T. George. She attended Primero school and was a graduate of
Trinidad High School. She then went to Trinidad State Junior College where she received her degree in education. She taught at Park Street for some time. She will be best be remembered as an excellent seamstress, who made many beautiful clothes, wedding dresses, and prom gowns, for many people in Trinidad, with great pride and perfection.
No job or request was too hard for her.
In her earlier years, she was active in the community. She was very instrumental in the establishment of the Trinidad Housing Authority in 1959 and served on the Housing Authority Board for 30 years.
In the early seventies, she served on the Trinidad City Council for two terms.
Marie was a member of the Eastern Star in Raton and Trinidad #1.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, George and Margaret, George, brother, Gerald, George, sisters law, Ruth, and Mary Theresa, and nephew, Tony Lee. She is survived by brothers, Anthony George from Wisconsin and Richard George of Trinidad, who lovingly cared for her until her passing. Other relatives and friends also survive.
Visitation will be held Monday, August 7, 2023, at the Comi Funeral Home Chapel from 3 PM to 6 PM.
Funeral Services will be held August 8, 2023, at the Comi Chapel with Rosary at 9 am followed by services with Pastor Cary Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at the Trinidad Masonic Cemetery.
