Donald L. Shaw passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023, in Twin Falls, Idaho at the age of 81. The oldest of three sons, he was born in Springer, New Mexico on February 10, 1942, to Richard and Pauline Shaw.
Don grew up on the family cattle ranch in Colfax County. After high school, he entered the U.S. Airforce where after being honorably discharged, he studied finance at NMSU. he then started a long successful career in the finance and banking business. his career led him to live in many different cities but he eventually found his way home to Springer where he retired. Although banking was his career, he never lost his love for the ranching life.
Don met his forever love Barbara while working at Philmont Scout Ranch marrying her on May 20, 1961. Barbara gave Don unconditional support and love throughout his life.
Being civic-minded, he gave his time and support to his children and their activities. he supported his communities with his involvement in the Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, Jaycee, and other groups. He more recently served on the Board of Directors for Luna Community College. He was recognized for his leadership with many awards and certificates.
Don was preceded in death by his Mother Pauline, Father Richard, and infant sister Peggy Lynette. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Barbara, and three children Elena Shaw-Kelly, Desiree Montoya, and Justin (Alexis) Shaw. He is also survived by four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two brothers Richard (Barbara) Shaw, and Gary (Jackie) Shaw, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 10 in Springer, New Mexico at St Josephs Catholic Church. A rosary will be said at 10″00 am and mass at 10:30 am. A luncheon will follow services at the parish hall.
