Early Morning Fire Causes Little Damage

Raton Fire Fighters were called out early Friday morning about 5:00 a.m. to a fire in the alley of the 500 block of South Second Street between Second and South Third Street.

The fire put up a column of smoke over South Second that could be seen from several blocks away.  Upon arrival at the fire, fire fighters found a pile of trash, old mattresses and other junk on fire next to a garage. Fire Fighters entered the garage to determine if it had been compromised by the flames next to it.

The fire was located behind 520 South Second Street which is one of the houses the city of Raton is in the process of trying to get demolished.

The fire is under investigation to determine a cause.
