In Loving Memory of Rachael “Sue” Owensby

Rachael “Sue” Owensby, born January 3, 1949, in Brownfield, TX.,  passed away on July 7, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.

Her Father Kenneth worked in the oilfield, so she traveled around with him as a kid growing up.

The family to Grenville NM, when she was a freshman in High School where she met the love of her life Stewart with whom she spent the next 60 years.  They were married Aug 26, 1967.

After a few years in college, they moved back to the family ranch where they raised their three children. Sue was Stewart’s number one ranch hand.  She loved getting up in the middle of the night to check the heifers when it was her shift and she kept track of the tally books and looked forward every year to the cattle gathering and shipping times.  She always made sure everyone was warm and had plenty of food and something to drink.  She rode miles and miles with Stewart and never spent more than 10 days her whole life away from him.

Sue always looked forward to her family reunion with her sisters. She had a good time finding the prizes for Bingo and always had a lot of laughs and stories to tell with them.

Sue never had a bad day, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild were the pride of her life.  She never missed a game, livestock show, or any event that they were involved in if she was able to attend.

Sue is preceded in death by her father Kenneth Thigpen and mother Edith Bechtal.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years Stewart Owensby; and by son Fred and wife Carol Owensby and grandchildren Sarah and Garrey of Las Cruces, NM.; daughter Stephanie and husband Wayne King of Folsom, NM., grandson Austen and his wife Mariel King and great-granddaughter Leah of San Antonio, TX, and grandson Mason King of Albuquerque, NM.; son Seth and wife Dawna Owensby and granddaughters, Paiton and Addison of Folsom, NM.

Sisters Elaine and husband John Jacobs of Humble TX., Ruth and husband Ed Schwille of Groesbeck, TX., Beth Thompson of Colorado Springs, CO., Madaline and husband Rick Rigoni of Amarillo TX.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at 10:00 AM in the Des Moines High School Gym in Des Moines, NM.  with Pastor Brad Doherty officiating.  Luncheon will follow with interment to follow at the Raymond Morrow Ranch.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Honor of Rachael Sue Owensby.

Arrangements for Rachel “Sue” Owensby are under the direction of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home.
