The Raton Little League 10-12-year-old All-Stars lost their opening round game in the District 4 Tournament in Las Vegas on June 24th and were sent to the Loser’s bracket. But losing was not an option after that, and the Raton team completed an improbable run from the bottom bracket to win 6 games in a row and take the District 4 Championship banner with a final 6-2 win over Las Vegas on Friday, June 30 in Las Vegas.
Losing by a final of 6-3 to Taos in the opening round, the Raton team then reeled off wins against La Plaza, Quay County, Los Alamos and avenged their only loss with a 15-5 win over Taos that put them in the championship series against the undefeated Las Vegas team.
Having to win two against Las Vegas, Raton came from behind again to score a 12-11 win on Thursday, 6/29 to set up the final game on Friday. Las Vegas led for most of the game, but then a late-inning barrage put 6 on the board and then Raton capped off the Cinderella story with a defensive triple play to walk off with the crown and a date at the NM LL State Championship in Los Lunas beginning July 14.
The Raton 10-12 All Stars are Warren Berry; Greyson Cummings; Brayden Decker; Dajah Fanelli; Carter Marquez; Cameron Mascarenas; Andre Ortega; Alfonso Sanchez; Matthew Trujillo; Daesyn Valdez; and Braylon Walton. The team is coached by Danny Cummings, Matt Berry and George Marquez.
