Ronald D. Jones (RD as he liked to be known), age 82 of Raton, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023. He was born June 2, 1940, in Raton, NM, the son of Ralph Wesley and Edith Marie Jones.

RD is survived by his son Gregory A. Jones and wife Laurel E. of Pueblo West, CO, daughter Cheri Holcombe

and husband Alan. Granddaughter Kaitlyn Braune and husband Kyle and great-grandson Gus. Grandson Hunter Holcombe and wife Taylor, and grandson Hayden Holcombe all residing in New Braunfels, TX. Brother Gary Jones and wife Marilyn of Springer, NM, nieces Karen Mccutcheon of Rio Rancho, NM, and Leslie Bates and husband Mike of Woodbine, GA.

RD is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Teresa Elizabeth Jones (Iacobelli). RD grew up in Capulin and Raton NM. RD graduated from Huntington Park High School in Huntington Park, CA in 1958. He moved back to Raton shortly thereafter and got involved in amateur drag racing in his 1956 Chevy. He served in the US Army from 1963 to 1965. After his honorable discharge, he embarked on multiple careers ranging from a construction worker, glass/picture framer, and candy distributor. RD became a coal miner in the mid-’70s at the York Canyon Mine. RD married his wife of 44 years, Teresa, in 1974. He was proud of the work he did and was a proud member of the UMWA Local 7949, retiring in 2003. Throughout his life, he loved to hunt, shoot his bow and arrow, work with his hands on various crafts, ride motorcycles, bowling, shooting pool, and he loved hot rods. Most importantly he was a loving husband and father. He was the rock of his family and provided everything they needed. He loved spending time with them whether it was day car rides, picnics, vacations, or simple things like playing Jeopardy with his wife and son. He led an honest life and was genuine. He loved good food and a good cup of coffee and chat. He had many friends and acquaintances. He loved the camaraderie of his fellow coal miners and car enthusiasts. He was quietly witty and funny. Something that you had to discover because he always had a stoic and strong look.

He will be immeasurably missed by his family and friends.

Services and Celebration of Life for Ronald D. Jones, Service will be held on May 27th at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home at 244 North 1st. Street Raton, NM, Rite of Committal and Internment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Raton.

Arrangements for Ronald D. Jones are under the direction of Alderette­ Pomeroy Funeral Home of Raton.

    RIP old buddy (back in the 60s we called him Dale) we spent a lot of time together bowling, talking cars and having coffee around town. I was fortunate to see him and visit over coffee last September. He was a good friend over the years I am sorry to see another buddy from back in the day pass on. My Condolences to his family.
