West Las Vegas Takes Home the Wins Tuesday

A mostly cloudy afternoon greeted players on the diamonds Tuesday as Raton hosted West Las Vegas for a single game on both the baseball and softball fields.

The baseball game got underway with what turned out to be a pretty even game throughout with Raton tying the game up after five innings of play but not before a lightning/rain delay halted play in the bottom of the fifth. Raton had bases loaded and one out when play resumed after the delay. The delay must have been the spark needed as Raton added six runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at eight.

But as has been the plague of Raton this year, errors from bad throws and just missed balls allowed West to add three runs in the next two innings to win the game 11-8 as Adrian Romero finished off the pitching duties after Azden Romero went the five innings before the rain delay.

Over on the softball field the JV started the afternoon and their game was called after five innings for the lightning/rain delay. The varsity game started about 7:30. Normally the JV games are played after the varsity play. During the JV game Raton’s starting catcher Addison Medina was hurt sliding into base and sat out the varsity game with Brooklyn Marquez taking over the catcher duties.

West started out the game scoring three runs with one run coming from Ali Otero who slammed the ball over the center field fence for a single home run. After that the Lady Dons simply out hit Raton with several balls going deep into the out field. A five run third inning and a four run fifth inning ended the game with the 10 run rule.
