Marian “Thelma” Lujan

Thelma passed away on

April 18, 2023 peacefully in her home with her husband by her side.

She was 78 years old.

She was born to Elpifano Martinez, and Mabel (Vigil) Martinez on October 16, 1944, in Raton, NM. She was the daughter of a coal miner and was always so proud of her humble beginnings. She

lived on Capitol Hill when her family moved to Colorado and was always telling stories of her family and friends that lived there.

In August 1965, she married the love of her life Eugene Lujan. Together they had 3 children, the oldest daughter Gina (Frank) Garcia, Dina (Anthony) Tortorice, and David (Robin)Lujan. They have 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She has one living brother Joseph, sisters-in-law Jeanette, Martha, and Yolanda, and brother-in-law, Roger. Several nephews and nieces and many dear friends also survive.

Preceding her in death are her parents, her in-laws Roger and Ermalinda Lujan, grandson David Bill Lujan, great-granddaughter Victoria, brother Richard, sisters Francis, & Louise, brother-in-law, James Leslie Lujan, sister-in-law Mary Ann, and a host-of beloved friends.

Thelma had many hobbies. She loved to read, sew, crochet, bake, cook, watch baseball, and any activity her children and grandchildren were involved in. She not only founded the folkloric group the  Colores del Tiempo, which represented her pride in her cultural heritage and love of dancing, she then continued her role in the group for 16 years She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood,  Chapters DE/J in Trinidad, where she made so many friends that she loved dearly.

Together with her husband Gene, Uncle Clarence, & Auntie Esther, they owned and operated the El Rancho Club for 35 years. She worked for Carmel Garlutzo and the PRWCD til December 2019. During her many years of employment, wherever and whomever she worked with, she made friends who she considered family and loved very much.

Honorary pallbearers will be all her grandchildren.

Rosary will be held at Holy Trinidad Catholic Church, on Thursday, April 27 at 12 pm, with the Funeral Mass following at 1 pm. Burial will be private with the family at a later time.

The family would like to thank Dr. Valerie Borsa, Kathy, Jude, Jeff, and the entire staff at Mt. Rose Hospice Center for their care, and help. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask to have donations to the Mt. Rose Hospice Center, 409 Benedicta Ave Trinidad, CO
