Raton picked up a double header set of games with Lamar Monday afternoon in Raton where the Lamar Thunder took the wins with two sixth inning rallies to 10 run rule Raton.
Game one saw Raton go scoreless in the first three innings with Lamar only scoring three runs for a 3-0 lead at the end of the third inning. Lamar and Raton both scored in the next two innings leaving Lamar ahead with a 6-2 lead. In the sixth inning Lamar found a seam and went through the batting order and a half scoring seven runs for a 14-2 win in game one. Lamar’s Austin Thacker went the distance for the win. Azden Romero started the mound for Raton with Jacob Mattorano coming to the mound in the fifth and Clayton Kelly finished the game for the loss.
Game two saw Raton score two runs in the first for a 2-1 lead. Lamar scored two runs on base hits in the second and Raton added one in the third for a 4-3 lead. In the fifth Lamar added a run to make it a 4-4 tie. Then in the sixth inning the lightning struck and the Thunder rumbled for 14 runs to make it a 18-4 win after Raton went three up three down in the sixth to end the game on the 10 run rule. Lamar started Erik Aguilar on the mound with Treagyn Duarte coming in for the finish. Raton started the game with Adrian Romero on the mound with Clayton Kelly coming in and GB Oliver finishing the game in the sixth.
