Louis Alex Georgieff, age 85, a lifelong resident of San Antonio, TX, passed away unexpectedly on March 5, 2023. Louis was born March 3, 1938, in Raton, NM, the first child of Alex and Effie (Sanchez) Georgieff.
Louis is preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeannie, brothers, Robert and Alex Georgieff Jr., sister, Sandra Georgieff, and son Michael Georgieff.
Louis, affectionally known as “Lou,” is survived by his children, Sylvia (John) Sanchez of Raton, NM; Cathy (Chris) Simmons, of Charlotte, TX; Kevin (Linda) Robb, of Raleigh, NC; brother, Marion (Gail) Georgieff of Alexandria, VA; sister, Mickie Georgieff, of Albuquerque, NM, and by numerous nephews, nieces, and grand-children.
After the death of his wife Jean Marie Georgieff, Lou had often professed the want of nothing more than to be buried next to his “beloved wife Jeannie,” and with military honors at Sam Houston Military Cemetery.
Lou was an avid lifelong, self-learner, and music aficionado of genres such as Rock, Jazz, Blues, Acoustic Guitar, Latin, Classical, Country, etc. Not afraid to tackle any handyman job, e.g., building his dad’s garage, he perfected his skills – no duct tape builds in his projects. Lou was also quite adept with taking the machinery and electronic devices apart and putting them back together. In his late 80s, he became proficient with computer programming and servicing/maintaining his computers and network devices. He had a fondness for growing plants, nesting birds, and keeping live fish.
Lou was recognized for his 27 years of dedicated service in the U.S. Air Force, 1957-1984, as an Operations Superintendent and Operations Manager. During his service, Lou found his niche when he completed the Senior Non-commissioned Office Academy’s Leadership Education Program, and proudly served 11 years as a Professional Military Education Instructor. Lou retired as Master Chief Sergeant, E9, with great admiration and love for the Air Force and everlasting support for the U.S. Veterans.
Lou’s military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Non commissioned Officer Professional Military Education Ribbon with 1 Device, Good Conduct Medal Army, Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with 5 Devices, National Defense Service Medal, Air Force Overseas Service Long Tour Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Value and 8 Devices, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Valor with 1 Device, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
Lou will be greatly missed by those who knew him.
