Raton (1-5) hosted the Clayton Yellowjackets (0-4) Friday afternoon for a double header at Gabriele Field where Raton over powered the younger Clayton team to mark the win column twice as Raton took game one in five by an 18-7 win and game two
Raton went through the batting order and three more scoring nine runs after holding Clayton to six batters and one run in the first inning. Raton added another run in the second and third innings holding Clayton to only one more run until the fifth inning when Clayton hit a hot streak. Raton rallied in the fourth adding another five runs for a 16-2 score after four innings.
Pitcher Chase Middlebrook was struggling in the fifth and walked four batters that scored four runs and Clayton added one more on a base hit making the score 16-7. Raton scored another two in the bottom of the fifth to end the game on the 10 run rule at 18-7.
Game two saw Clayton start off the scoring with three runs. Raton countered by scoring three runs in the first and four runs in the second inning leaving the score 7-3 after two innings of play. Lightning struck in the third with Raton scoring a whopping 12 runs leaving the Yellow jackets stung and licking their wounds. Raton added one run in the fourth and allowed Clayton to score six runs in the fifth to end the game on the 10 run rule.
