#2 seed Roy/Mosquero Lady Blue used a tenacious defense and solid play in the paint to pull away in the second period and the rest of the way for a 57 – 36 victory to give them a seat in the NM Class A Semifinals.
The game featured the last two Class A State Champion teams with the Vixens the defending champs and Roy/Mosquero taking the Blue Trophy in 2021.
Roy/Mosquero defense forced 32 turnovers in the game and scored 22 points off those miscues. The Lady Blue were formidable in the paint as they didn’t sink any three-pointers and only attempted 4 three-point shots, but had 21 fast break points.
Tanna Crisp led all scorers with 17 including 9 of 11 from the stripe. Sylviana Baca had 11, Natalie Smith put in 10, Nora Crisp with 8, Tayla Profitt had 7, and Selma Baca had 4.
Roy/Mosquero led 16-11 at the end of one, 29-18 at the half and exploded in the 3rd, outscoring the Vixen by 16-6.
Blue under coach Blair Clavel and assisted by Misti Gutierrez upped their record to 26-2 and will play Animas in the Semifinals on Thursday, March 9 at Rio Rancho Event Center.
