Lyle E. Anthony, 89, peacefully went to his heavenly home early in the morning of Wednesday, February 15, 2023, in Raton, New Mexico.

Lyle was born October 12, 1933, in Quinn, South Dakota to Edwin and Iloe (Shaffer) Anthony. As a small child, Lyle and his family moved to

Denver, Colorado. He served in the Army and was honorably discharged as a Corporal in 1955. He returned to Denver, where he worked for Acme Transport and Motor Cargo Transport. He retired from Motor Cargo Transport in 1995. He married Ellen Haines on November 21, 2006, in Raton, New Mexico, where they had relocated in 1995.

Lyle’s greatest passion was traveling. He and Ellen traveled extensively to Laughlin, Nevada; took many cruises to various ports of call; and for thirty years, celebrated Thanksgiving in Mazatlan, Mexico. Lyle always enjoyed telling stories and making people laugh. He enjoyed watching Fox News daily, and always had a kind words for everybody. Lyle was a fair-weather Broncos fan!

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Anthony, Sr.; brother, Alan Anthony; sister, Eileen Henderson; and sister-in-law, Martha Urioste.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen; daughters: LaKay Anthony and Tracy Anthony of Farmington, New Mexico; Kristine Haines and Teresa Wendelburg (David) of Westminster, Colorado; and Marcia Haines Rubio of Raton, New Mexico; brothers-in-law, Reece Henderson of North Carolina; Leroy (Pearl) Urioste of Wagon Mound, New Mexico; and Richard Urioste of Denver, Colorado; sister-in-law, Sue Anthony of Colorado; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. Lyle was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by his numerous friends and family.

Arrangements were made by Alderette-Pomeroy Funeral Home in Raton New Mexico. A celebration of life will be held at the Lighthouse Church, on March 11, 2023, at 11 am at 1310 South 2nd Street. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Veteran’s Administration orĀ Lighthouse Church.
