The District 5A girls championship game was held in Roy Friday evening February 24, 2023 where basketball fans got their money’s worth, but as the game got underway it was a low scoring game that had Lady Blue fans nervous as they girls fell behind the Lady Red Devils.
As the second quarter clocked ticked down the Lady Blue found their stride and outscored the Lady Red Devils almost 2-1. By the end of the first half of play strong defense by both teams had held the score to a tie at 12.
The Lady Blue spent the entire halftime in the locker room and when they arrived back on the court for the third quarter the sparks began to fly. The 3rd quarter saw both teams press and aggressive defensive play especially by the Lady Blue held Springer to only six points with Roy/Mosquero pulling out double digit points in the quarter which continued in to the 4th quarter as well.
The free throw line was a little kinder to the Lady Blue than Springer as Roy/Mosquero dropped in 64% or 11 of 17 of their shots while Springer managed a respectful 52% from the line with 13 of 25. Simply another game that could have had a different result had shot been missed or made from the free throw line.
